In Tipton, Great Bridge, and Princes End , West Midlands Police (WMP) are currently using the "Don’t Plonk It – Park It!" campaign to target illegal and inconsiderate parking. As of March 2026, neighbourhood teams are focusing on vehicles that obstruct pavements, as this is classified as anti-social behaviour (ASB) and poses significant risks to pedestrians, wheelchair users, and parents with pushchairs. Current Enforcement & Campaigns "Don’t Plonk It – Park It!": Officers place official warning notices on windscreens to educate drivers before issuing formal fines. Obstruction Fines: Fixed penalty notices are frequently issued in Tipton and Great Bridge hotspots where vehicles force pedestrians into the road. Vehicle Seizures: Cars found obstructing footways may be seized if they are also found to be untaxed or uninsured. Targeted Patrols: Routine patrols in January and February 2026 have specifically addressed prevailing parking issues in residential and shopping areas. Is Your Parking Illegal? Parking is considered illegal or actionable by the police if the vehicle is: Causing a Danger: Parked on zig-zag lines or near junctions where it blocks visibility. Causing an Obstruction: Completely blocking a pavement so that a wheelchair or double pushchair cannot pass. Blocking Emergency Access: Preventing fire engines or ambulances from reaching their destination. How to Report Parking Issues Police (Criminal Obstruction): If a vehicle is dangerously "plonked" on the pavement, use the WMP Report Illegal Parking tool. Council (Civil Restrictions): For parking on yellow lines or blocking dropped kerbs, report via the My Sandwell portal. Operation Snap: You can submit dashcam or photographic evidence of dangerous parking directly to the West Midlands Police portal. Upcoming Changes: Later in 2026, local authorities in the West Midlands are expected to receive tougher powers to implement and enforce wider pavement parking bans.
